ChatPDF AI ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ChatPDF AI (the "App"), available on the Apple App Store.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Documents You Upload

When you upload documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, EPUB) to the App, these files are stored locally on your device. We do not upload or store your documents on any server owned or operated by us.

Your documents never leave your device's local storage. They are only sent to the AI service when you actively use a feature (chat, summary, flashcards, quiz), and only for the duration of that request.

1.2 AI Processing Data

When you use AI-powered features (chat, summary, flashcard generation, quiz generation), the content of your document is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing. This is necessary to provide AI-powered responses. We send:

The content or data of the document you are interacting with
Your questions or prompts
Conversation history within a single session for context

We do not send any personal information (name, email, phone number) along with these requests.

1.3 Subscription & Purchase Data

If you subscribe to ChatPDF AI Premium, your purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store and managed by RevenueCat, our subscription management service. We receive:

An anonymous user identifier
Subscription status (active, expired, trial)
Product purchased and transaction dates

We do not receive or store your payment information (credit card number, billing address). All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple.

1.4 Device & Usage Data

We may collect minimal, non-personally identifiable information such as:

Device type and operating system version
App version
General usage statistics (number of documents uploaded, features used)
Crash logs and performance data

This data is collected in aggregate form and cannot be used to identify you personally.

1.5 Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

Your name, email address, or phone number
Your location data
Contacts or address book data
Photos or camera data
Browsing history
Advertising identifiers for tracking purposes

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

To provide AI features: Processing your documents through Google Gemini API to deliver chat responses, summaries, flashcards, and quizzes
To manage subscriptions: Verifying your subscription status through RevenueCat to unlock premium features
To improve the App: Analyzing aggregated, anonymous usage data to improve features and fix bugs
To provide customer support: Responding to your inquiries and resolving issues

3. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

3.1 Google Gemini API

We use Google's Gemini API to process your documents and generate AI responses. When you use AI features, document content is sent to Google's servers for processing.

Google processes data according to their Gemini API Terms of Service
Data sent to the Gemini API is not used by Google to train their models when accessed through the paid API
Data is transmitted securely via HTTPS encryption

3.2 RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat for subscription management and in-app purchase processing.

RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipts

3.3 Apple App Store

All in-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. Apple's privacy policy applies to all transactions: apple.com/legal/privacy

4. Data Storage & Security

4.1 Local Storage

Your documents, chat history, flashcards, quiz results, and summaries are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is protected by your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).

4.2 No Cloud Storage

We do not operate any cloud servers or databases to store your data. All your data remains on your device.

4.3 Data Transmission Security

When data is transmitted to third-party services (Google Gemini API, RevenueCat), it is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/HTTPS encryption.

4.4 Data Deletion

You can delete your documents and all associated data (chat history, flashcards, quizzes, summaries) at any time from within the App. Deleting a document permanently removes it and all related data from your device. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.

5. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

Access: You can access all your data directly within the App
Deletion: You can delete all your data by removing documents within the App or uninstalling it
Portability: Your original documents remain in their original format on your device
Opt-out: You can stop using AI features at any time; your documents will remain accessible locally

For EU/EEA Users (GDPR)

The legal basis for processing your data is your consent (by using AI features) and the performance of a contract (providing the service you requested). Since we do not store personal data on our servers, most GDPR provisions regarding server-stored data do not apply.

For California Users (CCPA)

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know what data we collect (described in this policy) and to request deletion.

7. Subscription & Auto-Renewal

ChatPDF AI offers auto-renewable subscriptions:

Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period
Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period
You can manage and cancel your subscriptions by going to your Apple ID account settings in the App Store
Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
